Coriander
Coriandrum sativum
Use:
Coriander seeds are used ground or whole, the leaves are used fresh and even the root is used, but only in Thailand. Coriander is a very versatile spice. In Germany it is used to flavor spiced biscuits and gingerbread. In Thai, Indian and Mexican cuisine it is used to flavor many dishes. It is often used to season fish, poultry and meat and is a key ingredient in liqueurs and vermouth. Coriander is also an important component to the Garam Masala spice blend.
Origins:
Coriander is native to southern Europe and the Middle East and is found throughout the Mediterranean, Balkans, Russia, India and America today.
